Move Over Conference… There’s a New Player In Town

The Idea Camp - a free hybrid conference for idea makers (Feb 27-28, 2009 in Irvine, CA)

This Friday will mark the beginning of a new type of ministry conference. This Friday is The Idea Camp. The Idea Camp is “an open source hybrid conference designed to help move people from the realm of ideas into implementation.” The really neat thing about this conference is the belief that “the crowd is always wiser and smarter than any one speaker.” The Idea Camp is formatted so that everything is about conversation and networking. Even the workshops are formatted to facilitate discussion. Workshop facilitators are only allowed a SHORT amount of time to introduce themselves and their topic, while the rest of the 75 minutes is dedicated to discussion around that topic!

I am privileged to be one of the facilitators. I will be facilitating a session on Saturday entitled “Creating Culture: What About the Kids?” Here’s the write up for it: “By age nine, a person’s spiritual framework is built, so our biggest opportunity to create culture is during childhood. Having a dynamic children’s or family ministry is not adequate. How do we include children in creating a culture that is transformational, having lasting impact in the future?” I hope to have some conversations in how we can intentionally bridge silo gaps between adult ministry conversations and children’s ministry conversations so that as the Church moves forward it is doing so in a more holistic manner across generations.

There are many other workshops that span everything from how to use new media in communicating to how to best network to how to build leaders to doing ministry in suburbia. You can check out the list for yourselves as well as the list of amazing facilitators.

If you can’t make it to The Idea Camp, you can catch the general sessions LIVE at http://www.theideacamplive.com.

I will also be live blogging right here on Elemental Children’s Ministry. So, you can get my impressions and notes as the conference is going! If you are on Twitter you can follow me at http://twitter.com/henryjz to find out when I will be live blogging.

I’m really excited about this conference and the potential it has to reshape what ministry conferences look like in the future. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a children’s ministry conference that was centered more around conversations and networking rather than simply sitting and listening to “experts?” Maybe it’s just me, but that would be one amazing children’s ministry conference!

By the way, did I mention that the registration for the conference costs a whopping $0! Yes, FREE! All thanks to some sponsors. Also, all the speakers/facilitators aren’t paid… they’re all coming on their own dime. Is that cool, or what?

Wow. It's Quiet Here...

Be the first to start the conversation!
