Confusing Kids by Mixing Fantasy with Biblical Reality?
Keith Johnson has a great post over on Children’s Minstry and Culture about the use of fantasy and imagination when teaching the Bible to children. I encourage you to go over and read it!
Keith, like me, believes that children have a great capacity to steer through the world of reality and fiction and still be able to learn the difference between Truth and fantasy. A lot of it is in how and what you present. Also, he states that those in opposition to using imagination/fantasy in teaching Biblical truths need to realize that we do that all the time! In fact, the Bible is full of metaphorical images and parables and such!
What do you think? Do you think it’s dangerous to use fantasy and imagination when teaching the Bible to kids? What have been your experiences?
